Dear Community Members: It is with deep regret that I notify you of the closing of the North Klamath County Visitor Center located in Gilchrist, Oregon. The Visitor Center was opened in 2008 with the expectation of receiving operating funds of $2000.00/ yr for the next ten years. Those funds were only made available to us for the first three years. Discover Klamath, while not the originators of the $2000.00 funding for the Visitor Center was to receive, was instrumental in not finding a means for those funds to continue. This Visitor Center represented the only solid footprint in North Klamath County as a tourist magnet and more importantly to us an established meeting site for the North KC Chamber.
The North KCCC was formed due to the frustration of many businesses in our area who felt they were an under represented part of the County. Sound familiar? Forcing awareness is not always immediate, nor does it happen quickly. With the distressed economy we have faced over the last few years it has been even harder. Our hope was to stay afloat and weather these times so that as the economy turns we too would still retain our foothold in the North County. Obviously, by the lack of support we have received this was not meant to be.
This lack of support has also marked the closing of the North Klamath County Chamber of Commerce. It was evident that with so little support or understanding from the Klamath Falls area that it was pointless to continue. It was decided by an official vote at our last meeting in December that all remaining funds in the Chamber will be donated to the Crescent Community Center. The Center has always been supportive of all chamber events and will continue to support the surrounding community events. This will benefit all.
I thank everyone who took the time and effort to make a difference in the North Klamath County Chamber of Commerce. We did well over the four years we were an established Chamber. We promoted our own area! We are now proudly sited on several maps, have over 13 North County businesses being featured in the National GeoTourism Guide, have produced our own Brochure and have sponsored numerous small fundraisers that have benefited our communities.
Our last official representation will be in the Oregon’s Resource Guide that promotes North County businesses this winter. Special thanks to Jerry Jones for this.
Our existing Chamber website (www.northkccc.org) created by Cyber Creations by Michael will now exist as our North Klamath County website www.NorthKlamathCounty.org . Cyber Creations by Michael will continue to feature local businesses, news in our area and more.
Please support www.NorthKlamathCounty.org website and contact them for free advertising plus some great new features.
Regretfully,
